Pre-Trip Tasting: 75 Sauvignon Blanc

75 Sauv Blanc

Last night we dined at DiPaolo, one of our absolute favorite restaurants in Atlanta (and all of the world). We had a divine house-made mozzarella and Salame Varzi bruschetta to start followed by the most fabuloso halibut, but we’re not here to talk about the amazing food at DiPaolo. (Psst…but if you’re in Atlanta, give them a call and go there just for the halibut on the summer menu. I mean it. The caper butter sauce is worth drinking straight, but I digress…)

Sitting at the bar as we usually do, we had the pleasure of trying one of Tuck Beckstoffer’s creations, the 75 Sauvignon Blanc. (We have been so into SB this year for some reason!)

Anyway, the 75 has a beautifully simple label and the bottle is filled with a delicious summertime nectar. Grapefruity (yeah I’m pretty sure it’s legal to just add a Y to any word when describing wine) and slightly floral on the nose, this wine hits your palate up front with ripe fruit, round melony quality (there’s that Y again) that quickly reveals a pleasantly crisp minerality and a long finish.

What I like about this wine (besides the price) is its balance. Like the Wayne’s World movie classic (you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll hurl) the 75 Sauvingnon Blanc gives you a little bit of everything a wine should have. Except of course the hurling. At right around $16 a bottle retail this one is a winner in my book.
